D Is for Decide
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

You get to decide where to focus your attention. You get to decide to focus on the boulder in front of you or around the rocks and flow downstream. When you decide, when you make a conscious choice you have agency which will determine if you wrap your boat around the boulder or flow past the obstacles and allow the force of the water to carry you.
Open your heart and mind and allow what is lying dormant within as possibility to carry you forward. Let go of what you fear and let come what is possible.
Lie back daughter, let your head
be tipped back in the cup of my hand.
Gently, and I will hold you. Spread
your arms wide, lie out on the stream
and look high at the gulls. A dead-
man’s float is face down. You will dive
and swim soon enough where this tidewater
ebbs to the sea. Daughter, believe
me, when you tire on the long thrash
to your island, lie up, and survive.
As you float now, where I held you
and let go, remember when fear
cramps your heart what I told you:
lie gently and wide to the light-year
stars, lie back, and the sea will hold you.
